Tinsel and Tonsils

It’s been awhile since we’ve posted but that’s just because Ellie has been so busy.

The biggest thing since the last update was Christmas, of course.  Christmas for Ellie is a month-long celebration, since it started with her school’s holiday concert in early December.  She didn’t quite understand the performance part of it, but she loved getting a candy cane when she saw Santa on the stage afterwards and was happy that her Grandpa Louis and Grandpa Ronn and Grandma Kathy came out to see her.

Next up was the Rasmussen Family Christmas up in Muskegon.  After sleeping pretty much the whole way there, she had a blast running around with all of her cousins.  She also did a photo shoot and some crafts, and let her cousin Emma get her into some trouble (not that that’s a surprise).

Finally it was Christmas Day, which she spent running around between Mom’s house and Dad’s house and Mom’s house and Grandma and Grandpa’s house.  She was super excited the whole time and barely slept and stayed up late and, again, chased her cousins around.  Emma gave her a makeover without quite knowing the difference between lipstick and blush.

One of the funny ways you can tell how much she’s grown in a year is that she’s way better at opening presents than she was last Christmas.  She understands how the process works and (mostly) opens everything herself.

And here are a few random photos of Ellie being cute and having fun from throughout December.

At the start of the month we learned that Ellie’s tonsils were very, very swollen.  Tonsils are sized from 0 to 4+ and hers were a 4+, meaning they took up over 75% of her throat.  This explains how she seemingly always had a sore throat and how she had a cough that just wouldn’t go away.  Her ENT recommended a process that would essentially shrink down the tonsils, which has a quicker recovery time than removing them entirely. So in early January we packed up and headed down to Southfield for the surgery.

Ellie did great and was back home eating Jello and soup later in the day.  She’s off all her post-op medications by now and is doing fine.  Looking down her throat, you can see that it’s way more open.  The doctor says she should be fully recovered by mid-February so hopefully her quality of life gets better.
