Happy Mother’s Day!!

First – Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there! It’s been a good weekend for Miss Elizabeth. She’s both 2 weeks old and 34 weeks gestation this weekend. Medically – she stopped receiving her caffeine on Saturday morning, so it’s been over 2 days since her last dose and she’s been doing really good. She had one little mini event like thing (her O2 level dropped a bit) but she came back up quickly on her own, so they don’t even count it  – which means she’s figuring it out. Fingers crossed it stays that way as always breathing is one step closer to coming home!

Otherwise everything else is pretty much the same – she’s growing, gaining weight, creating connections in her brain, etc. Breastfeeding seems like it’s going better and we’ll try weighing her before and after tomorrow to see if she’s actually getting anything from it. If she is (or at least enough) we can start working on bottle feeding – which is the other thing that needs to be mastered before we can go home! And man are we ready to go home.

She continues to surprise us every day by doing new things. Good or bad, her newest thing is getting a little fussy – especially when she’s digesting. The good (or bad, I’m not sure) part of it is that she reacts really well to being comforted in those times. Sometimes just talking to her, sometimes just putting my hand on her and always picking her up immediately calms her down. Ellie is really starting to know who her Mom and Dad are and that she wants attention from them.

For Mother’s Day, Ellie let me put her in my favorite jammers we got for her (tiny whales!) and gave me some good snuggle time this morning (baby hugs!)

And your daily dose of Ellie:

Trying to pull out her feeding tube – which she does every waking (and some sleeping) moment:

Holding her own pacifier (you can sort of see her whale jammies)
