It’s funny how Mondays are less ominous now that I’m doing the same thing every day. The big differences now are that Clark still goes to work (so I drive myself to the hospital) and the hospital cafe is open if I decide to eat there for lunch. Anyway, welcome to Monday, day 17.

Overall, our daughter is still doing well. The first half of the day went super well. She was happy to see me when I came in this morning (at least I took it that way) and her 11am breastfeeding session seemed to go really well.

Here she is in the morning (apparently looking camera shy):

They weighed her last night and she’s up to 5 lbs even! That’s crazy!

The evening wasn’t quite as smooth as the morning. At the 5 o’clock breastfeeding adventure we tried to weigh her before and after to see if she transferred any milk.. Well, since the morning one went so well I had a feeling the evening one wouldn’t go as well…..and it didn’t. She tried, but she was very sleepy. Then, when we weighed her after, so actually lost weight (not really, but the scale is only so accurate….which is part of the problem.) So, we’ll try weighing her every time until we get one that she did well at so we’ll have an idea on how she’s doing.

Then, about 6 she started spitting up again. It seemed like a lot to me, but apparently it really wasn’t that much. Her Dad got here and held her upright for about half an hour and she had a little burp, which seemed to make her feel better. And then, at the end of her holding time, she had a pretty big desat which scared the crap out of me. It’s possible we weren’t holding her head in the right spot or she refluxed (I’m not sure if that’s a word) and it just blocked her airway for a minute. She was fine after the nurse stimulated her a little and now she’s sleeping peacefully. It just brings me back to reality that she’s still a tiny, tiny girl even though she looks big (she’s only 34 weeks). As much as I think she’s a grown up baby and ready to come home….she still needs a little time. And while I’m glad they’ll wait until she’s healthy to send her home, it makes me sad.

To cheer us all up, here’s a happier picture of Ellie:

And PS – apparently Ellie’s Red Wings bib, and therefore team spirit, was enough to push them to win the game last night. Now we’ll have a new tradition 😉
