Growth Spurt and New Friends

Let’s see, what has happened since we last checked in with the little girl. I guess the first is that Clark and I went out for dinner – alone. The grandparents came up to watch Ellie for a couple hours (thank you!) so Clark and I could go out to dinner to celebrate being together for 15 years (and married for 8.) This was the first time we’d been out to sit down and eat since before the kid was born – which considering how much we used to go out is a long time (over 11 weeks to be exact.) Here we are before we headed out:

It went well. She mostly behaved. I was only a little anxious. We’ll try it again sometime 🙂

Around that same time our next door neighbors welcomed their little girl into the world (hence the new friend!) We took a walk with them yesterday to say hi and see how things went and I had two observations:

1) Their baby was 4 days old and they’d taken a walk as many times as we have since our kids were born. Apparently we need to get out more

2) Their baby was 6ish pounds (and cute) and next to her Ellie is a monster. It’s crazy how much bigger she is. It’s hard to remember the fact that she was born even smaller than that. Look at this giant girl:

She’s definitely continuing to do new things. She’s been awake a little more, and when she is she likes to kick and look around and ‘coo.’ Now, when I think of cooing, I think of soft, cute little noises. My child doesn’t do soft. She likes to yell. It’s a happy yell, and frequently accompanied by a smile – but she yells. Like this:

For the last two days, she’s been going through what we’re pretty sure is her 3 week growth spurt (11 weeks – 8 weeks early = 3 adjusted.) Our cute little bundle of joy has reverted to eating every 2 hours, or less. Which means she’s not sleeping a ton. And she’s fussy when she’s awake. Joy. Good news is, it should be over soon. Until then, I just have to keep that in mind. She does look visibly bigger again, and I see her every day. When she does sleep though, she’s pretty darn cute:

And, just for fun – babies in hoodies are super cute:

  1. yeah…so while visiting with jeff i may have mentioned something about missing the old days with your team in a2. and he may have told me about your blog. so now i get to catch up on what you’ve been up to, and look at ridiculously adorable baby pictures. yes–the growth spurt fussiness and sleeplessness will go away soon, only to return again and again (check out the wonder weeks–doesn’t help them sleep, but helped me figure out why they were up). but if you’re ever up in the middle of the night and frustrated as all hell about it, know that not only have i been there (in spades), but i might actually be up at exactly the same despite my kids’ advanced age 🙂
