Learning New Things Every Day

Apparently I’ve been slacking on the blog posts. We’ve been a little busy ๐Ÿ™‚

The kid is still doing well – growing and happy ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s see. So, last week we had a lot going on. Right after my last blog post she starting getting fussier when she ate again. She wasn’t eating as much, the screaming was picking back up – basically moving back towards where we were before we started her on reflux meds. I gave her the weekend and it still didn’t improve so I called the doctor. Her prescription was about out anyway, so I wondered if we should be upping her dose. They wanted to see her, so we headed into the Pediatrician’s office on Wednesday. They checked her weight and she’s up to 11lb 3oz (a long way from 4lb 11oz!) Otherwise she looks good so we upped her dose of her baby Zantac and within a day she was a different baby again. Happily eating, not screaming. It makes me feel a little better so I know I’m not crazy and she really does need to take this for a little while longer. Here she is sitting like a big girl in her high chair (no, she doesn’t eat there yet but…we were talking about eating:)

Our Doctor appointment was early that Wednesday, so since we were already up and dressed and the sun was out I decided we should have an adventure. We stopped at home to give Ellie some lunch and then the girl and I headed out to Green Oak (outdoor mall like thing in Brighton.)ย Overall, it went…OK. She got some kickin’ time when I had a few things to try on – we found a big dressing room with a big bench and she laid there for a few. Then she got fussy so I found a quiet spot by the bathrooms to feed her. That went OK, but the whole feeding and changing in public while she was whining by myself thing was pretty stressful. Thankfully, she fell asleep in her stroller after that and I got to look at some shoes in peace ๐Ÿ™‚

We only went to two stores, but it felt like a huge adventure for me, so we headed home. She slept in the car until we were about 10 minutes from home, and then she decided she’d had enough. She was whining quietly until we stopped to pick up her refilled prescription at the CVS Drive Through, at which point she went into full meltdown mode. The pharmacist was like ‘I’m going as fast as I can’ because she heard this inconsolable little girl in the backseat. The minute the car started moving, she was fine again. Sigh. And that ended our first adventure out for fun.

She’s always much happier when she gets to stretch out and be at home

The next day my friend and her new lovely daughter came out to visit (first play date!) It was nice to see them both and talk to real people during the day. Here’s a pic of the two together (don’t they look like cousins?)

Starting Friday we had lots of visitors through Sunday afternoon (Grandma, Aunts, Cousins) so Ellie got to meet lots of new people. We even went out to lunch Saturday where I got the joy of changing my first poopy diaper in public. That was fun. By the end of the weekend the little girl was exhausted from all the excitement and slept for 7 hours last night!

Over the weekend I’m also pretty sure Ellie had a ‘brain spurt’ as I’m going to call it. She’s suddenly doing a few new things. She found her hands. She likes to suck on them, and occasionally pull out a finger or thumb to suck on (but mostly her hand.) She found her ear. She’s doing way better at tummy time and she’s ‘talking’ more. All seemingly overnight. It’s exciting to see her grow and learn every day ๐Ÿ™‚
