A Weekend of Firsts

It was a big weekend this weekend in the Rasmussen household as I finally admitted Ellie was big enough to start doing some big girl things.

First, Ellie now sleeps in her crib, in her own room, at night. Sigh. This one was much harder for me than it was for her. I only cried a little. My little girl has been sleeping next to me in some sort of bassinet like object since we brought her home from the hospital. Sadly, I had to admit that she was growing out of her co-sleeper – she couldn’t stretch her arms and legs all at the same time (well, she could if she stayed exactly where I placed her and didn’t move an inch to any side but…yeah.) So, we laid her down in her crib for the night on Friday and she’s been sleeping in it ever since. She’s doing great in there – I think she likes the space and the comfy mattress. I miss having her next to me, but I do like the ability to read before bed, not have to crawl around her co-sleeper to climb into bed, etc.

This weekend our big little girl got to try ‘solid’ food for the first time! She wasn’t impressed. I kept struggling with whether to start on cereal, or veggies, or chunks she could feed herself. I finally just decided to go with cereal. Her Dr recommended it, and I thought she might not be impressed and then I wouldn’t have to waste ‘real’ food. She spit back out most of what she got in her mouth, but at least she didn’t throw up (which she’s done when we’ve tried to give her medicine not mixed in her bottle) so I count that as a win. She’s still 4 months in her mind, so she might not be totally ready yet. We’ll keep trying. Here’s some photographic evidence of how it went:

Miss Elizabeth has also started rolling from back to front (yes, a week after she started doing it the other way.) She’s getting to the point now where she does it almost every time she’s on the floor. The problem is, she then gets mad that she’s stuck on her belly. She forgets she knows how to roll over that way. Silly baby.

We also took her 6 mo pics this weekend (I know it’s a week late, but the last 3 months have been a week late so it’s sort of on time.) Because I couldn’t decide, here’s a bunch of cute ones:
