Well, it’s been almost a month since I posted and it feels like it’s been a crazy month, even though I’m not sure what happened. So, let’s start where we left off.
We wrapped up 2013 by going out to breakfast as a family for the first time since Ellie was tiny (and it didn’t go well, which is why we didn’t go out.) This time, it went much better – Ellie enjoyed sitting in the high chair and people watching:
We started off the new year with Clark attending a lot of outdoor hockey and Ellie and I hanging out at home:
We then had Snowmageddon. We got 16 inches of snow, which would have been super fun to take Ellie out in, but the wind chill was -40, so we just stayed inside.
We had so much snow and cold Ellie had her first snow day – daycare was canceled. As we were pretty much snowed in, Clark and I both stayed home. That turned out to be a good thing as by that afternoon Ellie had developed a fever. By that night she was running a pretty good fever (101+), was coughing, runny nose, just overall feeling like she got run over by a truck. She would sit in my lap and just whine and was pretty listless – poor baby. This was her first real cold, and I was definitely worried. We called the nurse line that night, and they told us to give her some Motrin and wait it out, so we did. We took her to the Doctor the next day and confirmed she still just had a cold. She spent most of the day like this (or whining):
When her fever would come down a little, she was a little more willing to play:
Her fever stayed for another few days and finally broke on the fourth day. By this point she was barely eating, which had me worried too, but was eating enough the Doctor told us to wait it out. So we did. Did I mention she couldn’t go to daycare all week? Thankfully my work is flexible enough to let me work from home/take time when she’s sick. Over the next few nights she started screaming, most of the night, so we took her back in to the Doctor and sure enough, now she had an ear infection. So we had our first ear infection. I was actually glad, because at least that we could give her an antibiotic and she would feel better fast. Which she did.
Otherwise, life has been pretty uneventful. We’ve visited with some family, ran some errands, and in general continued to figure out how to balance everything. Ellie has been super happy lately, and finally eating better, which is great to see after her crabbiness from being sick for a couple of weeks.
She’s also finally eating some solid food again. Here’s our adventure of trying to feed her non-pureed sweet potatoes:
She’s very much into standing/walking (while holding your hands) as much as you’ll let her:
She’s also gotten very good at scooting/not quite crawling. She will prop herself up just a little bit on one arm and push off with a foot. She also combines it with rolling and has gotten quite fast.
Her other new pastime:
And because she’s always adorable all bundled up:
